Wawer Guide: The Under-Appreciated South-East of Warsaw

What to know: Wawer, in the south-east of Warsaw along the Vistula, is officially one of the city's most beautiful and under-appreciated districts: green, low-rise and calm, with a covered municipal ice rink at V Poprzeczna 22 in the winter season.

The City of Warsaw's own district profile calls Wawer one of Warsaw's most beautiful and under-appreciated regions - a fair summary of the capital's green south-east, where low-rise streets and gardens stretch along the Vistula.

Riverside calm

Wawer's long river edge holds some of the wildest bank in the city - the right-bank Vistula here keeps its natural, sandy character, continuing the landscape of our Warsaw beaches guide. Inland, old villa streets and small churches mark the former villages that grew into the district.

Winter skating

In the 2025/26 season Wawer had a covered municipal ice rink at V Poprzeczna 22 - open daily from 6 December 2025, tickets 13 PLN (8 PLN concession, 5 PLN group), skate rental 10 PLN. See the winter guide for the citywide picture; the 2026/27 season is not yet announced.

Visiting

Suburban trains and buses run from the centre along the Vistula; the district pairs with Praga Południe to the north for a full right-bank day.
