Warsaw Beaches Guide: Where to Relax on the Vistula
What to know: Warsaw keeps its Vistula banks largely natural, and several sandy beaches are open to the public. The best known are Poniatowka by the Poniatowski Bridge, Rusalka on the Zoliborz bank, and the beaches of Saska Kepa. In summer the city also runs free passenger ferries across the river.

The Vistula in Warsaw is one of the last big rivers in Europe to flow through a capital city largely unembanked. The right bank in particular stays wild, and the city has leaned into that character: instead of promenades everywhere, Warsaw offers sand. According to the official Warsaw tourist portal, several beaches are open to the public along the river.
Poniatowka: the city beach
The most popular spot is Poniatowka, the beach at the foot of the Poniatowski Bridge on the Praga side. It sits directly opposite the National Stadium, which makes for one of the most recognisable views in the city. Expect sand, sunbathers and beach volleyball in season, with bars and food trucks appearing nearby in summer. The Vistula Boulevards on the left bank are a short walk away across the bridge.
Rusalka and the Zoliborz bank
On the western side, Rusalka beach in Zoliborz looks back across the water toward the Old Town skyline, which makes it a favourite at sunset. Further north, smaller wild beaches and clearings appear along the bank toward Bielany.
Saska Kepa and the southern beaches
South of the centre, the right bank past Saska Kepa opens into a string of beaches and sandy spots, including the area known as Plaża Saska and the Plyta Desantu (Desant Plate) by the water. Mini-beaches and bonfire spots dot the bank further south toward Wilanow.
Ferries across the river
In the summer season the city runs free passenger ferries across the Vistula at several points, linking the left-bank boulevards with the beaches on the right bank. They are a practical way to reach the sand and a small attraction in themselves.
Practical notes
The beaches are natural: bring what you need, and expect few facilities away from Poniatowka. The right bank is a protected riparian zone, so visitors are asked to keep to marked paths and fire spots.
