"Royal Łazienki Park: peacocks, a palace on the water and free summer Chopin"

Short answer: Royal Łazienki Park is Warsaw's grandest green space - an 18th-century royal summer residence with a palace on the water, free summer Chopin concerts and peacocks roaming the lawns.

Łazienki Królewskie - the Royal Baths - is where Warsaw goes to breathe. Seventy-six hectares of gardens, lake and palace a short ride from the city centre, laid out in the 18th century as the summer residence of Poland's last king, Stanisław August Poniatowski.

What to see

  • The Palace on the Isle: the neoclassical royal palace rising straight out of the lake, the park's signature view and its most photographed angle.
  • The Chopin monument: the great composer's bronze under a willow tree is the setting for free open-air Chopin concerts on summer Sundays (May-September) - a Warsaw institution since 1959.
  • The amphitheatre: the 18th-century island stage reopened to the public in 2026 after a comprehensive conservation renovation, with an inaugural concert on 8 May 2026 and further performances scheduled, according to the museum.
  • Peacocks and red squirrels: the park's free-roaming peacocks are as much a fixture as the monuments.

Planning your visit

The park grounds are free and open daily from dawn to dusk; the palace, Orangery and other historic interiors are ticketed. The museum publishes current opening hours, concert dates and the amphitheatre programme on its official site. In autumn the maples along the main alley make it one of the city's best colour walks; in winter the frozen lake draws photographers.

Combine Łazienki with the nearby Ujazdowski Castle contemporary art centre and the Royal Route walk north towards the Old Town.
