Museum of Warsaw: hours, the Old Town Market townhouses and what to see

The Museum of Warsaw tells the story of the city through its things. The museum collects the objects of Warsaw, researches them and puts them on show - the core exhibition uses the histories of particular objects to talk about the events and people who shaped the character of today's city. The setting is part of the story: the museum occupies eleven historic townhouses fused into one building on the northern side of the Old Town Market Square (Rynek Starego Miasta 28-42).

Opening hours

The permanent exhibition is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9:00-17:00, Thursday 9:00-19:00 and Saturday and Sunday 11:00-18:00. The museum is closed on Mondays. It will also be closed on 1 November 2026 (All Saints' Day) and on 24-26 and 31 December 2026. The next temporary exhibition opens on 29 October 2026.

Tickets and getting there

Tickets can be bought online through the museum's official booking site or at the ticket office on the Market Square (+48 22 277 44 02). The museum also runs the Heritage Interpretation Centre, the Museum of Pharmacy and the Museum of Printing, bookable through the same system. The Old Town is a pedestrian zone: the simplest route is the M1 metro to Ratusz Arsenał, then a ten-minute walk through Castle Square - our Old Town guide covers the neighbourhood itself.
