The northern district of Muranów was, before the war, the heart of Jewish Warsaw - and then the site of the ghetto and its destruction. The POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, standing at 6 Anielewicza Street opposite the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes, is the starting point for finding what remains.

Guided walks

The museum's city-walk programme includes The Biography of the Ghetto, a walk through the history of the ghetto told via individual lives and testimonies, from the Ringelblum Archive to the armed resistance. It lasts 2 hours, covers about 2 kilometres through the urban space, and starts in the museum's main hall - comfortable footwear is recommended.

Muranow in VR

A newer option, Explore Muranów District with VR, uses virtual reality to show the pre-war district that no longer exists - including the Great Synagogue and the legendary Nalewki street - alongside the commemorations of the post-war years.

Visiting the museum

POLIN opens Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday 10:00-18:00, Saturday 10:00-20:00; closed on Tuesdays. Thursday is free admission, and last entry to the Core Exhibition is two hours before closing. Walk reservations go through the museum's reservation offices.

Walking on your own

The former ghetto area around the museum holds memorial stones and markers, including the route toward the Umschlagplatz monument on Stawki Street - allow a quiet hour before or after the museum.
