Before Warsaw ran on electricity, it ran on gas. The Warsaw Gasworks Museum preserves the buildings and machinery of the historic city gasworks in Wola, telling the story of how gas light, gas heat and gas power shaped the modern capital. The museum is run by the ORLEN Ignacy Lukasiewicz Foundation.

What you will see

The exhibition walks through the production of town gas from coal, the daily work of the gasworks and the gas appliances that filled Warsaw homes, from street lamps to meters and cookers. Workshops and educational programmes run for schools, and temporary exhibitions extend the story.
