Museum of the Earth PAN: Geology on the Warsaw Escarpment

Tucked into historic villas on the Vistula escarpment, the Museum of the Earth (Muzeum Ziemi) is the earth science museum of the Polish Academy of Sciences - a quiet, specialist counterpoint to Warsaw's big-ticket institutions.

Where it is

The museum occupies villas on Aleja Na Skarpie, the leafy avenue along the escarpment above the Vistula, a short walk from Łazienki Park and Park Ujazdowski. Erratic boulders displayed by the buildings announce the geology theme before you reach the door.

Opening hours

The museum opens Monday-Friday 9:00-16:00 and Saturday-Sunday 10:00-16:00, with the last ticket sold 30 minutes before closing. It publishes its closure calendar for the year: in 2026 the closed days include 31 October and 1 November (All Saints) and 11 November (Independence Day) - worth remembering if you are in town for the Independence Day period.

Pair it with

The escarpment walk links naturally with the University of Warsaw Botanic Garden next door and the museum late-opening evenings in our late openings guide. For the city's bigger collections, see the National Museum guide.
