Poster Museum in Wilanow: The World First Poster Museum

Warsaw holds a quiet world first. The Poster Museum in Wilanow (Muzeum Plakatu), a branch of the National Museum in Warsaw, was founded in 1968 as the first museum anywhere devoted to the art of the poster. Its collection runs to tens of thousands of items, anchored by the golden age of the Polish School of Posters.

The collection

Polish poster art of the 1950s and 1960s - film, theatre and circus posters by artists such as Henryk Tomaszewski and Jan Lenica - is famous among designers worldwide, and this is its home. Rotating exhibitions draw on the collection of Polish and international posters from the late 19th century to today.

Opening hours and tickets

According to the museum, it is open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-18:00 and closed on Mondays. A normal ticket costs 22 PLN, a concession 16 PLN, and a family ticket 38 PLN (2 adults plus children up to 18, maximum 6 people). Children, schoolchildren and students up to 26 enter for 1 PLN, and Wednesdays are free for everyone. A combined ticket (60 PLN normal, 40 PLN concession) also covers the main building of the National Museum, the Krolikarnia and the Museum of Interiors in Otwock Wielki, valid for 30 days.

Visiting

The museum stands in the grounds of the Wilanow palace complex at Stanislawa Kostki Potockiego 10/16, a few minutes on foot from Wilanow Palace. Buses along Przyczolkowa Street serve the Wilanow stops. An hour here pairs naturally with the palace and its park.
