Powisle Guide: The Riverside Quarter Between the Centre and the Vistula
What to know: Powisle, the riverside quarter between central Warsaw and the Vistula, concentrates several of the city's best modern attractions: the Copernicus Science Centre, the Elektrownia Powisle food hall, the Asia and Pacific Museum and the Vistula Boulevards, all within walking distance.

The strip between the centre and the river used to be Warsaw's industrial backyard. Today Powisle is one of the easiest districts in the city to fill a whole day - and most of it is walkable along one axis.
Science and industry
Start at the Copernicus Science Centre, one of the most visited museums in Poland, then walk a few minutes to Elektrownia Powisle at Dobra 42 - the early-20th-century power station that now holds a food hall, shops and a beauty hall inside its preserved turbine halls.
The museum of the East
On Solec 24, the Asia and Pacific Museum shows the cultures of Asia, Oceania and Australia - the only museum of its kind in Poland, and free on Thursdays.
The river edge
Powisle's western border is the Vistula Boulevards, the city's busiest promenade, with the University of Warsaw library rooftop garden just inland. The modernist Warszawa Powisle railway station, a 1963 pavilion on the cross-city line, is a small landmark in its own right.
Visiting
Metro line M2 stops at Centrum Nauki Kopernik in the heart of the district. Everything in this guide is within a 15-minute walk of the station.
