The grand old terminus of Warsaw never really left - it just stopped selling tickets. Stacja Muzeum at Towarowa 3 occupies the former Warsaw Main Station halls, where the museum shows what it bills as one of the largest collections of historic rolling stock in Europe: more than 50 locomotives, carriages and rail vehicles, from steam engines to electric multiple units.
The collection
Rows of steam locomotives - including Polish designs like the OKi1, OKo1 and TKi3 - share the tracks with diesel and electric units, saloon cars and freight stock, much of it under the soaring roofs of the old station. A narrow-gauge railway museum operates as a branch.
Hours and tickets
According to the museum, it is open six days a week, Monday to Sunday except Tuesdays, 10:00-18:00, with the last visitors admitted 30 minutes before closing. Mondays are free.
Getting there
Towarowa 3 sits in Wola, a short ride from the centre and close to the Norblin Factory - an easy pairing for a half day in the district. Train fans should also see our Warsaw public transport guide for the modern network.
